Wolf cries wolf, and other hot air
"It's a monster! It's a monster!" Wolf Blitzer reported yesterday afternoon in describing Hurricane Isabel. Now THAT'S responsible, objective, and most of all helpful reporting. Did you notice the disappointment in the newscasters' voices today when they told us that Isabel has been downgraded (but is still a danger to some)? Here's hoping that all that hot air from the media will blow Isabel out to sea.
Speaking of hot air, we turn our attention now back to Our Nation's Capital, where our attention must remain focused whenever possible lest our representatives forget that they represent US.
Today the U.S. Senate defied Mr. Bush by overturning the Federal Communication's decision earlier this year to further deregulate media ownership. Or as the story played in Australia, "U.S. Senate Deals Blow to Murdoch.".
And as you recall, the Senate has also passed an amendment to protect overtime pay for millions of American workers from rule changes proposed by the Bush administration Department of Labor. Now the measure goes to the House, so if you haven't already done so, please please please contact your Congressperson TODAY to ask for his or her support for overtime. If the House doesn't follow through, the Senate vote will be meaningless.
