Life, death, and somewhere in between
Poor Terry Schiavo. Whatever your opinion on the subject of the brain-damaged woman whose doctors and husband were overruled by the Florida legislature and Gov. Jeb Bush, none of us wants to end up in her condition or her position. None of us wants to think about such unpleasant matters, but at least her story reminds all of us that we have to state our wishes about health care or someone else will decide for us. The Miami Herald has put together a handy guide with links to several living-will resources.
The Internet Legal Resources Guide offers links to many state-specific living will and durable power of attorney for health care forms, available free. Or you can use this more general living will declaration. For actual legal advice, consult an actual lawyer.
