Vanishing Trust
How quickly things change. I'd heard that the landmark "TRUST COMPANY OF NEW JERSEY" sign above Journal Square in Jersey City was coming down, and sure enough, all that was left on Nov. 1 were the letters "TRUST" and "PANY"-- reversed in this photo because we're looking at them from behind: (More below)
By Wednesday morning, all the letters were gone. The sign, along with the double-heart-shaped logo, became obsolete when the Trust Company was swallowed up by North Fork Bank. Even as it disappears, it remains a sign of the times.
