Tell me whose windows these are, and you could get a special bonus: more photos of the same place, delivered right to you by e-mail. Hint: I took this photo on Thanksgiving.

And a Happy 'Buy Nothing Day' to all!

If I'd realized today was a holiday, too, I would have celebrated accordingly, but I didn't realize it was Buy Nothing Day untl I was already home from today's shopping errands. Next year, we'll plan for it.

From the top

In case you missed the Towercam's live interactive coverage of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade, here are some of the highlights:

Home for the holidays

As our local Concorde settles into its new home here on the Hudson, the last of the 13 Concordes has landed at the field in Bristol, England where it was built, one last final flight to bring the Concorde era to an end.

If your Thanksgiving holiday includes watching the Macy's parade on television, you might also want to check out the parade from the Empire State Building Towercam; the north camera was down for a few days but it's working again now.

Attention, passengers: Final Call

Now approaching Slip 3: The Concorde

We're welcoming a new neighbor on the waterfront this morning: the Concorde, now part of the Intrepid Sea-Air-Space Museum, right across the Hudson from us in New York. After the final commercial flight Oct. 24, all seven of the British Airways supersonic jets were donated to museums around the world. For this BA Concorde, that meant one more flight from Heathrow to JFK, and then a journey by barge from there under the Verrazano Narrows Bridge, across New York Harbor and up the Hudson past Jersey City, Hoboken, and Weehawken.

Although I caught a glimpse of it passing Rockaway Beach before dawn this morning on the BBC News, I wasn't able to find it with the Towercam until it was well past the bridge:

That's Staten Island in the background.

By the time the slow-moving barge passed Battery Park City, I pulled on my official Blogger hoodie (Thanks, Blogger!) and went out to capture a bit of history as the Concorde passed the 14th Street Pier:

The Concorde and I were once neighbors in a different sense: In June, 1974, we shared the front page of the Dayton Daily News -- that is, its photo and my name were both on that page. Concorde's accomplishment was flying across the Atlantic and back in a single day. Mine was covering a disturbance at a local university.

Sick jokes

Did you hear the one about the flu vaccine that doctors everywhere have been recommending? Turns out the flu strain that's going around this year is a different kind, so those flu shots are only partially effective.

And how about this one: the Senate will vote in the next 24 hours on a bill that New Jersey Sen. Frank Lautenberg says "has no 'care' in it." The title makes people think it would give them Medicare prescription drug coverage. Instead, millions of retirees nationwide would lose the coverage they now have from their former employers, coverage they earned and bargained for as workers. Instead, not only would Americans no longer be able to import or reimport drugs from Canada at a fraction of the inflated prices in the U.S, but Medicare wouldn't even be allowed to bargain with drug companies for group discounts, as the Veterans Administration does to great effect. But what about prescription drug coverage -- doesn't it include that? Uh-huh: Beginning in 2006 there'd be some coverage for some prescriptions under Medicare, but how much and for which drugs? Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton put it bluntly: "That's a pig in a poke."

Have you contacted your Senator yet? If not, the joke may be on you.

The wrong prescription

No, I'm not going to quit the AARP over the group's ill-advised endorsement of the Medicare Prescription Drug Bill now being debated by the U.S. Senate.

Nor am I going to quit voting. And like a lot of AARP members, I think for myself and vote for myself. The AARP doesn't speak for me. I don't endorse the bill. It's a trick because it takes away far more than it gives. Or as Sen. Jon Corzine puts it, "the bill is a Trojan Horse." New Jersey's other Senator, Frank Lautenberg, says that "Seniors in our state will be forced out of Medicare as we know it and into HMOs."

It's not too late. Contact your Senator NOW. They're debating the issue today, with a vote scheduled for Monday -- unless Sen. Ted Kennedy and others opposed to the bill can get enough votes for another filibuster.
