Welcome to the waterfront, Queen Mary 2!
Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, let's give a big waterfront welcome to our newest arrival, the world's largest cruise ship: the Queen Mary 2. She sailed into New York this morning, accompanied by an entourage of buzzing helicopters and spraying fireboats. Hundreds turned out along the Hoboken waterfront to watch her maiden arrival, although some of those were commuters too engrossed in their morning papers to bother looking up as history passed by.
The passengers and crew were most likely very, very happy to reach our shores, as the ship's maiden voyage was a rough one due to gale-force winds and 30-foot seas.
How big is the QM2? Three times the size of the Titanic.

Overtime takeaway becomes official
Although both houses of Congress voted repeatedly to protect the right to overtime pay for overtime work for millions of American workers, the Bush administration has decided otherwise, today announcing regulatory changes that will go into effect in 120 days. While early news reports portrayed this paycheck-cutting measure as "new protections," they have now begun to acknowledge some of the criticism from labor organizations.
There's still one more thing we can do: Click here to Let George W. Bush know what you think about his administration's contradicting Congress to take away overtime pay. And if it turns out he's no more responsive to those protests than he was to the House, the Senate, and millions of American workers, there's one further step we can take: in November, we can vote for somebody else.
