Did Osama endorse Nader?

I was wrong -- yesterday I told you that Osama bin Laden did not express a preference in our presidential election. But after reading the transcript, I have to correct that. At first, it seemed he might have been endorsing Bush:

"We found no difficulties in dealing with the Bush administration, because of the similarities of that administration and the regimes in our countries, half of which are run by the military and half of which are run by monarchs. And our experience is vast with them."

But in his concluding remarks, it appears Osama may be more of a Nader supporter:

"Your security is not in the hands of [Democratic presidential nominee John] Kerry or Bush or al Qaeda. Your security is in your own hands. Any nation that does not attack us will not be attacked."

But don't let me -- or the people on TV -- tell you what he said, and what it means. Read it yourself, and draw your own conclusions. Your guess is as good as mine, and ours is as good as theirs.

Cue the boogeyman

After months of letting Dick Cheney speak for him, boogeyman Osama bin Laden has spoken for himself just in time for Halloween in a new video that aired on Al-Jazeera. Among other things, the Saudi-born terrorist says that it doesn't matter to him who we elect next Tuesday.

And now, suddenly, the subject has been changed, and the newspeople aren't talking about those missing weapons or the new report that more than 100,000 Iraqi civilians have been killed so far since the U.S. invaded Iraq.

Missing weapons, on video

Minnesota television station KSTP has video of U.S. troops opening sealed bunkers full of containers marked "explosives" and "Al Qaqaa", then leaving them open as they moved on to Baghdad in April, 2003. KSTP had a crew imbedded with the 101st Airborne at the time.

But don't tell CNN or Fox News, because they haven't noticed that story yet. KSTP is an ABC station, but ABC News doesn't seem to have the story, either.

Somebody done somebody wrong songs for our times

A group of Nashville volunteers, including some of Music City's best studio musicians, have banded together to produce "Takin' My Country Back."

And Eminem's "Mosh" is already the Number 1 video on MTV.

Emperor admits to wearing ill-fitting clothes

As we reported here a couple of weeks ago, Mr. Bush admits he wears ill-fitting clothes. Three debates in a row. He did not, however, concede that he made any mistakes in doing so.

Guess who's arming the Iraqi insurgents?

We are.

"It's untidy. And freedom's untidy. And free people are free to make mistakes and commit crimes and do bad things," Rumsfeld said, smug as ever. "The images you are seeing on television, you are seeing over and over and over, and it's the same picture, of some person walking out of some building with a vase."

Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, March, 2003

Happy 90th birthday, Jack LaLanne!

TV's original fitness guru turned 90 last month, but he didn't get around to celebrating until this month, so we wish him a belated happy 90th birthday. Apparently he did not celebrate this year by swimming in the Pacific while towing one boat for every year of his age, but he did have a big celebration, and he's even giving his fans a gift: Jack LaLanne's Magic Five exercises on a free, printable page.

Many happy returns, Jack, and may you keep sucking in those abs for years to come.
